MattCanada is a Montreal, Canada based recycling company that was founded after research was done on mattress manufacturing and retail.
The huge impact discarded mattresses had on the environment was then realized. After landfills were included into this research, it was decided that something had to be done to rectify the growing problem.
When MattCanada opened its first recycling center, operating in a small warehouse, only two local furniture retailers brought their disposable mattresses to be recycled. Gradually, more companies learned about the services MattCanada offered.
MattCanada serves now over thirty clients from various sectors, not only commercial establishments such as retail chains, manufacturers and hotels but also municipalities and private citizens. Inquiries have come from all sorts of companies wanting to dispose their items. That has hastened the growth of MattCanada to the point that it is expanding its services by accepting larger variety of items as well as opening new locations. Currently, on top of mattresses and box springs, MattCanada recycles clothing and shoes, toys, home appliances and electronics.
MattCanada has now become the choice of many chains that sometimes have volumes of various types of defective merchandise. Rather than find numerous different recyclers, companies can use the services of one reliable company, MattCanada.
Many new locations are being considered both in Canada and the US and recycling centers in some of those locations will be opening very soon. The mattress recycling program that MattCanada offers has been so successful that even foreign governments have asked
MattCanada to help them with their ever-increasing mattress problem. MattCanada is the only mattress recycler in Canada, although it is not the first company trying to tackle the problematic mattress recycling. In the past there has been many
attempts by many companies, but while MattCanada’s success rate is increasing the other companies have failed or forced to overcharge to survive. Currently MattCanada charges $10 - $15 per mattress or boxspring. The fees other companies charge vary between $25 - $80.
MattCanada has been determined from the beginning to keep its fees low. "To recycle successfully is to keep everyone motivated. Greener tomorrow sounds great, but being an environmentally friendly company should never put it under a financial strain. Recycling should make, among other things, financial sense", is the target of MattCanada.
To serve its American clients, MattCanada has opened a new recycling center in Frederick, Maryland in the United States.
